The musical is based on the story of "The Old Corps" by Colonel Edward H Joy.
Plot Summary
Set in Folkestone during the early days of The Salvation Army, the musical portrays the Army's arrival, their vibrant worship and outreach, and the transformative power of faith on individuals grappling with personal issues like selfishness, drinking, and gambling. It depicts the clash with the 'Skeleton Army', local opposition fueled by prejudice and fear. Despite persecution and even the martyrdom of a Salvationist, the Army perseveres, emphasising themes of God's universal love, the importance of inner transformation, the power found in Jesus' name, and the welcoming nature of God's service. The story culminates in a celebration of faith and the indwelling 'Glory' of God.
